The factory finish on most Mercedes wheels of the 80s and 90s, and the most hard-wearing choice for a car that is driven every day. It stays smooth under your hands, needs nothing more than a damp cloth and a leather conditioner now and then, and ages the same way as the rest of an original interior.

Nappa punched with small holes, as Mercedes used on AMG and later sport wheels. It gives a slightly firmer, cooler grip and a sportier look, which suits a car you drive hard or in warm weather. Brush it lightly now and then so dirt does not settle in the holes.

A suede-like microfibre with the most grip of the three, familiar from racing and modern AMG wheels. It feels best with dry hands and wants a little care: brush it occasionally and clean it with a dedicated Alcantara cleaner, so it stays soft instead of turning shiny.

Genuine wood veneer for the top and bottom of the rim, the way Mercedes dressed its S-Class, SL and E-Class wheels of the era. Burl walnut is the classic choice for most cars of the 80s and 90s, zebrano is found in many early W124 and W201 interiors, and bird's-eye maple in many W210 and W211 interiors. Which wood a car has depends on its trim level as well as its year, so the best guide is the wood already on your dashboard: match it and the wheel looks factory-fitted. Carbon fibre replaces the wood sections with real carbon, either in the classic woven pattern or as forged carbon with its marbled look. It is the natural fit for AMG and later models, and a modern touch on an older car. Piano black, offered on selected wheels, is a deep high-gloss black lacquer like the trim in many later Mercedes interiors. Like any gloss finish it shows fingerprints, so keep a microfibre cloth in the car.

If you still have your original wheel, send it to us and we rebuild it, so you get back the wheel that came with your car. If you do not have one, or want to keep yours untouched, we find a matching original core wheel and build on that for a surcharge. Either way the base is a genuine Mercedes-Benz wheel, never a reproduction, so it fits exactly as the factory intended.

We never ship airbag units, in either direction. If your wheel has an airbag, remove the unit before you post the wheel and keep it safe at home. If you choose a leather or Alcantara airbag cover, we send the cover only, and your airbag unit goes back in when the wheel is refitted. Have any airbag work done by a qualified mechanic.

A flat bottom, or flat top and bottom, gives more knee room and a sportier look, and the sport ergonomic option reshapes the rim for a sportier grip. A 12 o'clock stripe lets you feel straight ahead at a glance, and stitching can be any colour. Leather comes in original Mercedes interior colours, a custom colour matched to your interior, or two-tone.
