Custom steering wheels for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class W211

The W211 E-Class was built from 2002 to 2009 as a saloon and the S211 estate, from the E200 to the E55 and E63 AMG. Both of its steering wheels can be built and previewed in the builder above, and the W211 offers more wood and finish choices than most cars we build for.

Which wheel does your W211 have?

Pre-facelift cars have the earlier wheel, which is noticeably bulkier.

Facelift cars, from 2006, have the later wheel, recognisable by the elegant line that runs across it. The same wheel is used in the pre-facelift CLS (C219), the CLK (W209) and the SL (R230).

Sport and AMG versions came with paddle shifters. More on those below.

Wood and finishes

The wood in a W211 mostly follows the trim line:

• Classic: most have eucalyptus or dark eucalyptus. Choose burl walnut in the builder and tell us in the notes that you want eucalyptus.
• Elegance: most have burl walnut.
• Avantgarde: most have dark bird's-eye maple, which Mercedes called black bird's-eye maple. It fades to a pale, yellowish tone over the years, so most cars today look lighter than they did new. On request we restore it to the original dark finish.
• Designo: umber maple grain, offered in the builder as Designo Umber Maple.

Some cars have matt red-brown cinnamora or brown poplar instead. For those, choose the closest wood and name yours in the notes. If you would rather go modern, carbon fibre, forged carbon and piano black are all available.

Most W211 wheels are black, grey or beige, and other colours are rare. We can match the leather to your interior.

Paddle shifters

Facelift wheel: you can add paddle shifters in the builder. They are the standard plastic paddles, not the chrome ones fitted only to AMG models, but if you have chrome AMG paddles you can fit them to the finished wheel afterwards.

Pre-facelift wheel: paddles for this wheel are very hard to find, so we do not supply them. To keep paddles, send us your own wheel, or a wheel that already has them, and we build on that. Retrofitting paddles to a pre-facelift car that never had them takes real work, so research it before you commit.

Popular W211 builds

AMG shape with paddles: a favourite with W211 owners. The thicker sport grip with a flat bottom, perforated leather or Alcantara on the sides and paddle shifters, in the spirit of the E63 AMG.

Restored Avantgarde maple: dark bird's-eye maple top and bottom brought back to its factory colour, with black nappa.

Carbon: carbon or forged carbon top and bottom with Alcantara sides, for a more modern cabin.

Before you order

Every wheel starts from a used original Mercedes-Benz core, so it bolts straight onto your W211. We rebuild everything you see and touch. Parts inside the wheel can show some corrosion from age, which is out of our hands, but when we source a wheel for you we pick the best core we can find.

The airbag on this wheel comes off easily. Remove it before sending your wheel and keep it at home; we never ship airbag units. When the wheel comes back, have the airbag refitted by a qualified mechanic.

W211 steering wheel questions

Does the estate take the same wheels?
Yes. The S211 estate uses the same wheels as the saloon of the same year.

Will my chrome AMG paddles fit?
On the facelift wheel, yes. We fit the standard plastic paddles, and you can swap your chrome ones on afterwards.

How long does it take?
Most builds take one to two weeks in our workshop. We email you photos of the finished wheel to approve, then it ships to you anywhere in the world.
