Custom steering wheels for the Mercedes-Benz SL R107
The R107 SL was built from 1971 to 1989, one of the longest runs of any Mercedes, from the 280 SL to the 560 SL. On a car this old, the steering wheel is often cracked, faded or sticky, and a rebuilt original makes a big difference to how the car feels.
Which wheel does your SL have?
The builder covers R107s built from 1981 to 1989, with the four-spoke wheel in a standard and a smaller-diameter version. These wheels have a horn pad in the centre rather than an airbag.
Not every R107 year is covered yet. If your car was built before 1981, or its wheel does not match the pictures, contact us before you order and we will tell you what we can do.
Wood and colour
Match the wood to the trim already in your car. Zebrano, burl walnut and bird's-eye maple are all available, or keep the wheel in leather only. Many SLs were ordered with coloured interiors, and we can match the leather to yours.
Build ideas for the SL
Factory fresh: smooth leather in your interior colour, restored to how it looked new.
Smaller and sportier: the smaller-diameter wheel with the thicker sport grip, which gives the SL a quicker, more modern feel.
Wood top and bottom: burl walnut or zebrano sections that pick up the dashboard wood.
Before you order
Every wheel starts from a used original Mercedes-Benz core, so it bolts straight onto your SL. We rebuild everything you see and touch. Parts inside the wheel can show some corrosion from age, which is out of our hands, but when we source a wheel for you we pick the best core we can find.
SL steering wheel questions
My R107 is older than 1981. Can you still help?
Possibly. Contact us with a photo of your wheel before you order.
How long does it take?
Most builds take one to two weeks in our workshop. We email you photos of the finished wheel to approve, then it ships to you anywhere in the world.
