Custom steering wheels for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W220
The W220 S-Class was built from 1998 to 2005, from the S 280 to the S 600 and the S 55 and S 65 AMG. It is a car made for long distances, and after twenty years the steering wheel is usually the most worn part of its cabin.
This page covers the W220 S-Class saloon, before and after the 2002 facelift, built 1998 to 2005.
Which wheel does the builder show?
The builder shows the four-spoke wheel of the W220, the same wheel before and after the facelift. The CL-Class C215 of the same era uses it too.
On most W220 wheels the leather has gone smooth and shiny where the hands rest, and the wood often shows small cracks in its lacquer.
What you can change on your S-Class wheel

- Sides: leather, perforated leather or Alcantara.
- Details: a leather or Alcantara airbag cover in one of two seam layouts, with an optional AMG logo, and a 12 o'clock stripe in yellow, white, red, orange or black.
Build ideas for the S-Class
Eucalyptus: the OEM shape with Eucalyptus Wood top and bottom and smooth leather, the warm, glossy look of the period.
S 55 look: a sport grip with a flat bottom, carbon fibre, Alcantara sides and a leather airbag cover with the AMG logo.
Long distance: the OEM shape with Burl Walnut and perforated leather sides, comfortable for hours at the wheel.
Before you order
You can send us the wheel from your car, or we find an original Mercedes-Benz wheel and build on that. Either way the base is a genuine Mercedes part, so it fits as the factory intended.
Take the airbag out before posting your wheel and keep it safe at home, because airbag units cannot be shipped. A qualified mechanic should refit it when your wheel is back.
S-Class steering wheel questions
Does it fit both the early W220 and the facelift?
Yes. The W220 kept the same four-spoke wheel through its facelift, so every build on this page fits either.
What are the two airbag cover styles?
A wrapped cover can have a seam across the middle or none there; both have a seam along the top and an arched seam at the bottom. The builder shows both.
How long does it take?
Most builds take one to two weeks in our workshop. We email you photos of the finished wheel to approve, then it ships to you anywhere in the world.
