Custom steering wheels for the Mercedes-Benz CLK C208
The first CLK was built from 1997 to 2003 as the C208 coupe and the A208 cabriolet, from the CLK 200 to the CLK 55 AMG. It shares its steering wheels with the W210 E-Class of the same years, and every C208 and A208 can take a wheel from the builder above.
Which wheel does your CLK have?
Pre-facelift CLKs have the four-spoke wheel family also used in the W202 C-Class. The builder offers the standard wheel, the rarer Sport Line wheel and two SL-style wheels derived from the R129 SL.
Facelift CLKs have the later wheel with control buttons on the spokes. It does not fit pre-facelift cars, so check which one you have before you build. A rarer facelift wheel has no buttons: build it as the normal facelift wheel and note that yours is the version without buttons.
The quickest check is the wheel itself: buttons on the spokes mean it is a facelift wheel. If you are still not sure, send us a photo.
Wood and colour in the CLK
Most CLKs have burl walnut, and some, mostly earlier cars, have zebrano. The trim level mattered as much as the year, so match the wheel to the wood already in your car. If yours has chestnut, select burl in the builder and tell us in the notes.
Most CLK wheels are black, but many coupes and cabriolets have lighter or coloured interiors, and we can match the leather to yours.
Popular CLK builds
Pre-facelift: burl top and bottom with black nappa, a sport grip with perforated leather sides, or a full Alcantara wheel, which suits the CLK surprisingly well.
Facelift AMG look: a wheel in the spirit of the CLK 55 AMG, with the sportier grip shape, smooth nappa leather and a leather-wrapped airbag cover.
Before you order
Every wheel starts from a used original Mercedes-Benz core, so it bolts straight onto your CLK. We rebuild everything you see and touch. Parts inside the wheel can show some corrosion from age, which is out of our hands, but when we source a wheel for you we pick the best core we can find.
Sport Line wheels are hard to find, so for those we build on the wheel you send us.
If your car has a driver airbag, remove the unit before sending your wheel and keep it at home; we never ship airbag units. When the wheel comes back, have the airbag refitted by a qualified mechanic.
CLK steering wheel questions
Does the cabriolet use the same wheel as the coupe?
Yes. The A208 cabriolet takes the same wheels as the C208 coupe of the same age.
My facelift wheel has no buttons. Which one do I build?
Build the normal facelift wheel and add a note that yours is the version without buttons.
How long does it take?
Most builds take one to two weeks in our workshop. We email you photos of the finished wheel to approve, then it ships to you anywhere in the world.
